This one is more pre-teen than Y/A because of the writing style. There is an underlying story line with lots of potential but the characters are hard to like. By about page 50 I was sick of the heroine getting frights every time someone touches her. Sadly, this seems to be more of the writer's style than anything to do with the character. At the end of the book there was a sample from one of her other series and guess what, page 1 the heroine is getting scared by the same thing. This element repeats itself to the point of being annoying. Not really knowing how American schooling works, I was confused about the heroine's age from the beginning of the book till she was suddenly having her 18th birthday. Once I Googled it things made a bit more sense. However, once I understood her age it made her seem very childish for her age.
There is not a lot of real action or mystery in this book and it seems to be more of a set the scene for the real action coming in the rest of the series. I didn't find it interesting enough to want to read more but I think it will appeal more to the younger generation. I read a lot of books (about one a day) and I didn't find anything new or exciting enough in this one to recommend it.

I loved it. Had me staying up late turning pages for hours. Desiree has a wonderful imagination and I am thankful to have come across this series.
What a great start for a series! Wonderfully done, easy to follow the story line and the characters rock! I love that this story will continue on! Great Job Desiree!
This story has a great background, action and mystery. You just can't put it down once you get into it.
Ms Deorto has a fabulous narrative voice. She has that rare ability to draw the reader into the story, compelling us to want to know -'What happens next?' I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to what happens next in the second book (already halfway through it!) Creative, enchanting tale. Would recommend it!
First thoughts after.....
WOW!!! I have SO MANY QUESTIONS! I'm going to have a hard time waiting til late fall!
How distracted did I get?
The Prophecy is a highly addictive read that will leave you wanting to hop right into the next book! The story is gripping and emotional and I found myself attached to Star and her friends. What guy to root for? Between Gabe and Andrei I'm very torn! I was so wrapped up I let hubs take care of dinner for the boys.
I absolutely LOVED this book! Desiree drew me in from the first paragraph. I loved going on the journey with Starlette and seeing how she handled the "darkness" that was consuming her. I couldn't put the book down. I read this book and book 2 The Divine in one sitting. Desiree had me so intrigued, I couldn't wait to find out what would happen. I felt the whole book was written extremely well. She is definitely an author to keep your eye out for. I will definitely be reading all her work.
This was a well written story. It sucked me in from the beginning. The plot was at times rushed and a bit confusing. But then again we are reading this from the pov of a confused broken girl. It was one of those I couldn't stop even if I had to. I FELT everything she felt. My heart was pounding. I was practically hyperventilating at the end. I rarely get surprised anymore by these good vs evil things. They tend to follow the same pattern. This was different. I am fully invested in this story. I can't wait to see how this plays out. Will the darkness inside her win or will she embrace it to see the light at the end?
5 Oh My Stars - Starlette is thrown into a new home in a new state, everything that was familiar is gone. On top of that crazy unexplainable things have been happening over the last year to her. She can't control her feelings of anger that have been swirling inside even though she tries. Then it happens and her family up and move across the country. Where being a total outsider makes her stand out. Can she try and control this dark feeling inside her. Can she adjust to new surroundings and make new friends or is there something out there hunting her and no matter where her family goes it will follow until it has Starlette. Find out in this action packed this book. Desiree DeOrto kept me on the edge through out this whole book and I can't wait to get into book 2.
