I could see how this book wouldn't be for everyone...
Yes, parts were predictable.
Yes, parts were a little cheesy.
And yes, it wasn't an out-of-this-world, totally-different-from-anything-I've-ever-read story.
It's all true.

But something about this novel just worked for me, and I think it was because of the characters.

...Rowen...
I have been loving these slightly insecure and completely awkward, yet feisty and courageous heroines lately--they've been everywhere it seems and I hope they're here to stay.

I think on some level EVERYONE cares what people think, some definitely care more than others but we all care.

"I’d worn so many different labels I lost count. People liked to label things; it made them feel like the world made some sense. Like, if I was one thing, they were the other. I guess that made people feel better about themselves. If they focused on how screwed up I was, they could pretend they weren’t just as screwed up".

Rowen was absolutely right and I was really happy that she didn't pretend those insults didn't phase her. I don't believe that being strong is about not caring what people think, I believe it's simply about refusing to change even though you do care. And that's exactly what Rowen did.

"Don’t waste your time trying to be someone else. Just be the best you you can be."

...Jesse...
I loved how easygoing and happy he was, and he took all of Rowen's s*** without letting it change his attitude. But I was also grateful that he got pissed when warranted, showing a full range of emotions doesn't mean you're suddenly not a happy-go-lucky person. He was also, clearly, a very intelligent man...

"I learned years ago that to start an argument with a woman is to lose an argument."

And I was so happy that he didn't push Rowen away when she pulled back, there is an ex (who still loves him) floating around in the story and I was worried about her part in it when Rowen pulled away. Authors usually use that moment to push the hero and ex back into... something, but that wasn't the case. Jesse (like Rowen) stayed true to who he was.

But I think my favorite part about him was this...

"We don’t deserve anything, Rowen. We don’t deserve punishment, we don’t deserve happiness, life owes us nothing... so we have to take what we want because life sure as s*** isn’t going to freely hand it over... and I want you."

Every woman deserves someone like Jesse to remind her that her mistakes aren't all she is and that her future can always be more than her past.

If you're dead set against this, I wouldn't push it like I would some others and say you have to read this. But if you're anywhere on the fence of unsure... READ IT!

If you're looking for a unique storyline, I'd say hold off but definitely keep it on a TBR shelf for when you're ready for some amazing characters :)

Lost and Found Nicole Williams 9781484148037 Books Reviews

I devoured this book! I felt an instant connection to Rowen, who was fighting so many demons that the last thing she needed was to be thrown into the lion's den known as the Walker household. So different to what she was used to, the country ranch of the Walkers' was the last spot she expected to find a place to belong.

JESSE WALKER! Oh, how I loved him. The perfect mix of charming, sweet, sexy, naive, gentle, harsh, witty ... I could go on! Everyone needs a bit of Jesse in their lives!

"All drama aside, Jesse was the guy a girl didn't get over. End of story. Truest story ever told. I knew because I felt the same. I'd never get over Jesse Walker."

Neither will I, Rowen, neither will I. He was the perfect young cowboy and it was no wonder Rowen felt unworthy of his affection, talk about intimidating! But Jesse was persistent and I also loved that about him. He didn't allow Rowen to continuously push him away.

"That was what I did. That was how I protected myself. I pushed others away before they could do it to me."

And boy did she ever! Rowen had not had the easiest of lives and when you meet her mother you'll know why! But no matter how much she fought it, she'd found a place in the Walker home.

"Country looks good on you, Rowen."

Apart from the spectacular surprise known as Jesse Walker, I did find a lot of this book quite predictable. However, it didn't stop me from enjoying every second or from jumping straight into book two! 4.5 stars
This author is new to me, but I was completely blown away with this story! Corey Callahan is a strong, intelligent woman who was living life to the fullest playing hockey in high school and looking forward to playing in college. A tragedy strikes and she finds herself in a wheelchair and all of her dreams are snatched away. Ready to face new challenges, Corey is so ready to start college. She cannot bear to keep seeing the sorrow that is in her parents eyes. After arriving on campus, she finds that her original roommate elected to still room with her in the dorm with handicapped facilities. A perfect friendship develops and it eases starting college in a wheel chair. While getting settles in to her dorm, she meets the gorgeous hockey star, Adam Hartley, living across the hall with a broken leg. An unlikely friendship and alliance blooms between the two. Together, the two find that sometimes out of the bad and the broken, something good can be found, even true love. The real test.......do you have the courage to embrace it and follow your heart! This story will touch your heart in so many ways! The emotions and feels from this story...... just beautiful! Ms Bowen gives us a beautiful story of love and hope found in unexpected ways!
